Job Summary

Working as an Infrastructure Architect you'll be responsible for the detail planning and design in supportive of the customer environment (whether this is internal or external to CenturyLink).  As part of the detail planning, you will be responsible for developing the Low Level Design document that outlines all the hardware and software requirement that is needed to support the customer environment (whether this is a green field or migration activities).  This includes compute, storage, network, loadbalancer etc. that is needed to support the customer environment.  This Infrastructure Architect will work closely with the Application/Migration Architect in understanding what kind of workload/application is being migrated or deployed, along with other engineering organization to develop the underlying infrastructure and ensure the success deployment of the customer environment

Job Description

  • Provide detail technical documentation in supportive of customer environment (whether it is green field or via migration effort).  This includes identifying all the hardware and software in order to support the environment
  • Provide work-day management of multiple data-center migration related projects, including off-hour migration events
  • Participate in project plan construction, tracking and reporting
  • Manage the efficient movement of application/server migrations through the detailed migration cutover plans
  • Be able to handle multiple large, diverse and complex projects in the areas of datacenter migrations
  • Manage client expectations from initial problem identification and through the project lifecycle
  • Coordinate and manage among multiple, multi-functional collaborative project and/or work teams
  • Coordinate the activities of multi-functional teams, as well as the project task dependencies and schedule
  • Scope, risk and issue management, including documenting, communicating and facilitating resolutions or mitigation plans
  • Initiate and manage a communication plan, including regular project status reports
  • Deliver appropriate integration, training and implementation plans and activities
  • Manage stakeholders and multiple project teams in the context of a single project
  • Maintain all project artifacts
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to senior leadership, management and stakeholders
  • Align systems, data and solutions to business end-to-end boundaries and build a capable best practice staff of experts in key areas
  • Review of solution architectures against compliance with both existing and emerging standards
  • Evaluate the strategic contribution of applications and alignment with overall strategies and architectures
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of the portfolio of technologies, and a disposition status (ex. contain, maintain, deploy, retire) of all business applications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience is required
  • Education and experience with Project Management methodology based on Project Management principles desired
  • Eight years of experience leading large, diverse and often complex hosting projects is required
  • Experience managing projects with multiple project teams, product development lifecycle, or quality lifecycle
  • Experience making formal and informal presentations to senior and executive management and key stakeholders
  • Demonstrated management skills and the ability to work effectively to build relationships with executive management, department managers and project managers
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems and conflicts
  • Demonstrated understanding of customer business needs in support of data-center program objectives
  • Ability to translate conceptual thinking into project definitions and requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, prioritize work, manage time and respond effectively to a rapidly changing environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in assessing and mitigating risks through risk planning, recording, practice management and financial management
  • Suggest opportunities to improve data-center migration processes and increase program efficiency by identifying and executing data-center migration optimization opportunities
  • Planning, designing, and executing data-center expansion, consolidations, relocations, and migrations and documenting data-center changes including project plans, architectural plans, CMDB usage and various enterprise class project tracking and reporting tools

Education

Bachelors or Equivalent in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering

Masters or Equivalent in Information Systems or Information Systems
