Job Summary

The Associate Release Engineer sits within CenturyLink’s Managed Hosting and Cloud business.  As a technical engineers, the primary responsibility is to execute software updates and Operating System patching on customer systems across multiple cloud platforms.


The Associate Release Engineer is responsible for planning, validating and executing scheduled maintenance in adherence with best practices for Change and Release Management.  The Associate Release Engineer is part of a global team and will work closely with other team members across different regions as well as directly with customers and customer account teams.


The role requires that the successful applicant will work a shift pattern: Friday – Monday (10 Hour Shifts)


Job Description

The Associate Release Engineer – Global Release Management is a technical specialist within the Global Release Management team.  Summaries of responsibilities:-

  • Execute maintenance either in response to customer requests, or to proactively manage and maintain the hosting environment
  • Prepare technical work instructions for successful execution of maintenance including Methods of Procedure and supporting documentation for standard maintenance requests
  • Review and validate all upcoming maintenance activities and support successful execution by resolving incidents and issues identified during validation phase
  • Communicate effectively with external customers, customer account teams and CenturyLink’s internal Change and Release Management teams to ensure maintenance is executed in line with customer expectations and best practise Change Management processes
  • Work closely with the development team to integrate new automation deployment tools
  • Escalate issues to the relevant Engineering teams as required, promptly following procedures and ensuring management is updated accordingly on issues.
  • Escalation of critical issues/outages as per procedures.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or similar proven track record of experience.
  • 2+ years’ proven experience in a technical support or software implementation role working with Microsoft Server Operating Systems (Windows 2008/2012/2016)
  • Experience of applying Operating System security updates or patch management using enterprise level tools e.g. WSUS, SCCM, HPSA, RHN
  • Scripting experience with PowerShell Bash / shell scripting in PowerShell and Linux
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory, DNS and Microsoft Networking
  • Be highly organized and able to work under pressure and time constraints
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Proactive and self-motivated – willing to improve on existing processes to allow for faster iterations.
  • Strong track record of learning new tools and technologies


Preferred Requirements

  • ITIL V3 Foundation certification
  • Possesses one or more Microsoft professional certifications (MSCA/MCSE/MCITP) or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) in an enterprise environment
  • Scripting knowledge of Python or JavaScript
  • 2+ years’ experience of Operating System patch management for RHEL and ESX at an enterprise level
  • Working experience in a PaaS or Private Cloud environment

**Shift is Friday - Monday, 7:00am  - 6:00pm
