Job Summary

CenturyLink is looking for a Summer 2018 intern for the Engineering and Construction group. The Intern is a company recognized individual contributor that applies approved technologies and architectures to specific work requirements. The Intern will assist in the development of plans for the implementation of new plant construction. The ideal candidate will be responsible for helping to engineer design plans and specifications, including gathering field data. The individual in this position will learn from other associate engineers the most feasible, and economical means necessary to complete the work. 

Job Description

  • As an Intern, these candidates will assist Engineer I’s in screening held orders, engineering small subdivisions, building entrance cable, or held orders, and obtaining permits.
  • The intern will go out and meet with larger entities, municipalities, government entities, developers/builders alongside other members of the Engineering team.
  • This individual will conduct formal meetings and/or presentations regarding engineering and construction plans for the receipt of pricing proposals or bids.  Additionally, this intern will work cross-functionally with network planning and assist in identifying projects for budgets and prepare justification for said projects.
  • This employee provides cost data to support capital planning and budgeting, at a project level.
  • The intern will also help monitor and control project expenditures against their assigned projects. 


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Working towards a Bachelors degree at a 4 year accredited college or university.
  • Candidate MUST have a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher.
  • Additionally, they must be classified as a Junior or Senior by the start of the internship.
  • Knowledge of current approved products and technology used in engineering remote electronics, FTTT, GPON, Ethernet , MTU, MDU, aid to construction (BART), Joint use poles and held orders.
  • Proficiency when working in Microsoft Office products, must have EXCEL experience.
  • Must have good communication skills and the ability to give presentations.
  • Must have valid driver's license and good driving record. MVR required for this role. .

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a Bachelors degree in Engineering or related field, I.E. Construction Management, Drafting, Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, etc. would be preferred.
  • Previous knowledge of Outside Plant design and a willingness to learn and to support the Engineer II and Senior Engineers is preferred.
