Job Summary

Evaluate, document, and communicate the business value propositions of machine learning and other algorithms.  Translate requirements into delivered solutions. Review, analyze, build; and modify advanced analytics models in python; jupyter hub; splunk; and related tools. Perform statistical analysis and other data science work to provide insights and requirements to other analysts, data scientists, etc, including teams of data engineers (in addition to doing some of this work on their own for testing and proof of concept work) for debugging, aggregations, time series, normalizations, data mining, descriptive analysis, preparation of ETL code, and documentation of large volumes (up to terabytes) of operational data in a Hadoop environment using SQL, Spark, and other languages and formats to support machine learning algorithms.  A portion of the data will be machine generated data (router syslogs, performance management data; etc).

Job Description

Skill sets are business unit facing and communication skills – expertise needed includes:

  • Ability to do data discovery; iterate on modeling and make changes to identify the best overall solutions.  Skilled in gathering requirements and be able do the requisite data modeling (i.e., strong at both client engagement and data aggregations and data mapping).
  • Must be able to quickly understand a requirement and mock up a working solution.
  • Develop prototype data sets, analysis, and solutions that accurately reflect needs so it can be streamlined and standardized.
  • Awareness and ability to communicate the value of big data and analytics to business operations users and executives.
  • Demonstrable evidence of Hadoop; hdfs; big data; and advanced database knowledge, including ability to provide requirements and work iteratively with others that are doing data handling and manipulation techniques (ETL); ingestion; ability to map data all the way through ETL (extract; transform; load) type processes.
  • Conduct data interrelationship analysis and rationalization to support multiple simultaneous algorithms in a reusable fashion.
  • Create common definitions of various data sources so data can be rationally mapped together via joins; aggregations; etc. across multiple (and different) frequencies (seconds; minutes; hours; days; etc).
  • Inquisitiveness; analysis skills; asking good questions; following up in a constructive and productive manner.
  • Ability to motivate others, use good teamwork skills, including development of interdepartmental relationships and the ability to make complex decisions.
  • Work iteratively in a fast paced environment.  Ability to work as a member of a team in a dynamic environment is required.

  • Ability to explain complex analysis to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Present work to others for review in a well thought out manner that creates clarity.
  • Ability to communicate with pictures; diagrams; and in writing in a way that makes it easy to understand complex situations and provides useful solutions.
  • Conduct ad-hoc data analysis requests and design data extracts.
  • Conduct data validation of existing applications and new solutions to ensure continuous data accuracy, and ease-of-use.
  • Ask good questions that help with problems solving.

Qualifications

  • Excellent English oral and written communications skills.
  • Masters or PhD Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Machine Learning, or related degree and applicable experience
  • Must be self-motivated, inquisitive, highly analytical, organized, and detail-oriented with strong time management skills and ability to meet project timelines in a fast-paced environment.
  • 5+ years of experience delivering Advanced Analytics solutions; preferably including machine learning.
  • 3+ Years Spark, Scala, Numpy, sklearn, pandas and/or other common data and machine learning Python libraries; or similar tools.

 

 

Additional Preferred skill sets:

  • 5+ Years relational database and SQL experience - strong ability to produce complex data models. SQL expertise with time series data.
  • Ability to use matrix operations within Python.
  • 3+ years experience with HDFS; Impala; Hue; Hive, HBase, Yarn, RDD, and other Hadoop components and concepts.
  • R Studio experience.
  • Experience working with telecom consumer and network data is preferred.
