We are currently seeking a Sr. Manager of Information Security, to join the Global Security organization. In this role, you will be a part of a team that builds technology to protect the world’s largest companies, governments, and millions of homes from advanced security threats – while maximizing our competitiveness in the market.  We are looking for the technically savvy leader with motivation to own the engineering development of key security product lines and deliver critical value to our customers


Job Description
  • Oversees the responsibilities and deliverables of the Security Product and Innovation Engineering group, managing high-priority business commitments and committing to high levels performance and exceptional technical standards
  • Combines broad professional experience and deep knowledge of technical concepts in directing complex engineering designs and implementations
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, mentors and supervises the information security professionals in the engineering group.  Performs employee performance reviews, makes compensation recommendations and manages performance metrics       
  • Manages all phases of the engineering development cycle – from collaboration with the product management and development organizations  to the engineering, testing and operational implementation of competitive and differentiating Managed Security Services
  • Coordinates activities on multiple complex security development initiatives, across multiple departments and business units
  • Drives development of repeatable test procedures, creation of  exceptional technical documentation and delivery of scalable standards for all implementation, provisioning and support functions
  • Manages the gathering of custom design requirements for the team, to develop custom designs or engage the architecture team for new feature development
  • Develops and maintains partnerships with key equipment suppliers; providing requirements, guidance, and vision to the vendor community in order to cultivate the appropriate combination of new technologies and capabilities necessary to achieve CenturyLink objectives
  • Manages engineering support of Operations and Operational Engineering (OpsEng) teams by setting the exceptional standards for documentation, configuration, processes and troubleshooting guidelines development
  • Maintains appropriate metrics that track engineering team performance.  Ensures reports and additional supporting details are delivered in a timely and appropriate manner to upper management and executive leadership
  • Participates in organizational budget management through tracking of funding and spending requests as well as lifecycle and contract statuses
  • Consults and collaborates with internal and external architecture, engineering, operations and business clients on various security topics such as best practices, engineering designs, service and policy interpretation, as well as the latest incidents and  developments within the broader security community
  • Assesses security operational processes to identify opportunities to optimize, enhance and automate those processes to achieve the greatest impact
  • Reporting to the Director of Security Architecture and Engineering, the Sr. Manager will participate in strategic planning of the Information Security organization’s short, mid and long-range goals 


  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience in a technical role supporting the MSSP or Service Provider sector, including 3+ years in performing security engineering design, implementation, and support functions
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Must possess broad technical knowledge of current and emerging technologies used both within the service provider security and network infrastructure, and in delivering customer facing services
  • Motivated leader with self-initiative to proactively seek out improvement opportunities, consider multiple views and options, and champion resolution
  • Working experience with Managed Security Services platforms and solutions as well as Service provider edge/core devices, service enabling devices, Ethernet switch vendors, etc.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of:
    • Access control and firewalls/UTM devices including Web Application Firewall (WAF) Web Content Filtering, Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDS/IPS) systems, Remote Network Access (IPsec VPN, SSL), Anti-Virus and Anti-Spam (AV/AS), Email and Messaging Security
    • Distributed Denial of Service Architecture (DDoS), Flow and Application Monitoring
    • Understanding of Integrated network architectures, cloud technologies
  • Must possess broad and deep technical knowledge of current and emerging security and networking technologies used within the service provider security organization and in delivering customer-facing services
  • Good interpersonal and communications skills along with the ability to handle an interrupt driven, fast-paced environment
  • The successful candidate will have experience in leading a technical staff, possess strong mentoring and communication skills and experience in presenting technical issues to a wide variety of audiences, including management and non-technical staff


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional/technical certifications, such as CISSP, CISM or CISA
  • Experience working with government programs and contractors – security clearance is desirable
  • Experience in leading teams of technical personnel
  • Knowledge of project management practices
  • Experience in large service provider network and security designs, engineering and support processes
