Job Summary

We are in the process of selecting candidates to fill open positions in the combined company following CenturyLink’s acquisition of Level 3 Communications.  All qualified candidates who express interest by submitting an application to an open posting will be considered.  We welcome, and encourage, all application submissions while we continue our integration process.  But based on business needs, preference may be given to internal applicants from CenturyLink and Level 3.  As with all roles in the combined company, filling these roles is contingent upon the merger close.


The Director, Sales Public Access is responsible for managing the Sales Managers who lead the sales professionals Nationally  The Director Sales will interface with all levels within the company, especially the leadership team. This person serves as a trusted advisor to the VP National Public Access and champions their vision internally and externally.

Job Description

  • Lead a team selling a multi-service, managed IT service to the Corrections (prison and local jail) market.Services allow inmates to communicate with attorneys and family members both voice and data methods.Value-added services such as educational tablets, contraband cell phone detection and control, and others are also included in many contracts.All services include extensive forensic and data-mining software that investigative staff rely upon to ensure public safety.
  • Lead the process of developing and managing strategic business plans that drive customer: revenue growth, acquisition, and retention and margin profitability.
  • Compose responses to structured State and County procurements.Position will manage a technical writing team managing written compliance with state laws as well as presenting CenturyLink’s technical capabilities in the most favorable way is a must, and written communication skills are of particular importance.
  • Responsible for the overall sales strategy and sales activities.
  • Forecast sales opportunities, and deliver monthly sales and revenue quota to ensure profitability goals are achieved/exceeded.
  • Supervise Sales Professionals to establish employee performance goals and measurements, and partner with them to obtain results.
  • Conduct regular account reviews with direct reports to ensure maximum sales efforts.
  • Lead the customer account relationships by developing and maintaining high profile relationships with executive customer contacts.
  • Analyze strategically the market to determine sales growth potential required to reach revenue targets.
  • Build talent pipeline, coach, train, motivate and grow direct reports.
  • Effective communication with direct reports, management, other BUs, customers and support staff.
  • Conduct sales presentations to C-level executive decision-makers.
  • Possess strong hiring skills to maintain a team of top talent.
  • Accountable to effectively manage to financial and resource budget.
  • Reports directly to the VP National Public Access.


  • Must have a minimum of 5+ years of successful Sales Management experience within the High Tech/Telecommunications/ industry in a sales management role; directly leading a sales team.
  • Must have extensive knowledge of telecommunications products and services.
  • Must have strong communication skills, leadership, analytical and decision making skills.
  • Must be highly driven, competitive and lead by example.
  • Must possess account planning skills and the ability to effectively develop and execute a sales strategy plan.
  • Must be able to align resources to develop compelling business case and value proposition.
  • Must possess the ability to recognize business needs within varying organizations, in all customer prospects and existing account base.
  • Must have ability to travel as business needs require.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated extensive experience in the public sector, selling to State and/or Local government
  • Prior experience with Corrections.
