Job Summary

The Lead Sales Engineer is the technical lead on the federal account team, responsible for technical and business requirements discovery, telecommunications and CPE solution design/engineering/consulting, proposal preparation support and technical presentations to customers for CenturyLink’s full suite of products and solutions. The Lead SE will develop ambiguous customer needs into specific, deliverable requirements and solutions to help qualify and quantify opportunities. The Lead SE also resolves technical issues during the sales engagement, helps clients define specifications and requirements, develops solutions, and provides technical presentations to both technical and management-level audiences

Job Description

  • Apply advanced understanding of sales cycles and the solution selling process, preferably at multiple levels, i.e., Internet and Enterprise. Advanced level presentation skills
  • Perform business and technical requirements discovery; ability to craft a solution based on those requirements
  • Design customer premises communication (data, video, voice) equipment from major vendors
  • Design IP routing and switching components
  • Utilize Optical, Internet, VPLS, and MPLS-VPN architectures to deliver solutions
  • Integrate Voice and VoIP technologies and products into customer solutions
  • Evaluate TDM, SONET and Ethernet technologies and products
  • Data center infrastructure and networking **Strong Network Security Skills-Firewall, IDS/IPS, Cyber Defense
  • Attend customer meetings in person and via the phone and Prepare moderately complex level technical proposals and presentations.
  • Participate in Proposal Response including solution design and written/illustrative response to technical requirements
  • Exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Advise customers and sales on technical aspects of company products including fit to customer’s needs, features, availability, etc.
  • Provide moderate scope responses to product and industry questions
  • Deliver proficient solution selling and effective, pro-active customer communication.
  • Analyze customer’s business needs and develop intermediate range strategies based on knowledge of customer’s current communication network, equipment, and business.
  • Develop competitive solutions independently and complete moderately difficult custom designs.
  • Utilize expertise to execute the strategy, streamline, and improve Sales and SE processes.
  • Recommend continual improvements to management team; outline changes needed to the process, products, and pricing based on the requirements.

Escalation route for SE and Sr. SE - act as customer advocate as necessary for pre-sales activities and minimal post-sales activities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent years of experience
  • Prior experience as a Sales Engineer is required; with the skills and knowledge needed to be effective. 
  • 7+ years of Sales Engineering,
  • Previous experience federal sales engineering experience preferred
  • Advanced understanding of voice/data/internet applications, communications technology, and network design; as well as understanding the technical terminology related to company products and services. Requires general knowledge of voice and data communications equipment.
  • Strong business acumen: minimum of an intermediate understanding of company financial measures
  • Minimum of an intermediate understanding of the telecommunications industry and sales cycles.
  • Strong MS Office experience and application with an advanced ability to depict solutions graphically and in a competitive manner
  • Ability to travel as needed (Approx. 10-15%).
  • DoD experience.
  • Secret Clearance preferred.
  • Military Experience Preferred.
