Job Summary

This position reports to the Director – Claims and Counsel. Serve as the primary litigation attorney for the Risk Management group within Treasury responsible for managing all litigated auto liability (AL) & general liability (GL) claims.  Directly manage all retained outside counsel.  Issue and release investigative (Upjohn) letters and legal holds related to AL & GL cases.  In addition, assist with litigated workers’ compensation claims as appropriate.  Complete special projects as directed by the Director – Claims and Counsel.

Job Description

·         Serves as the primary litigation attorney for the RiskManagement group responsible for managing litigated AL and GL claims and coordinating with the claims department on same. 

·          Issue and release investigative (Upjohn) letters and legal holds related to AL & GL cases as needed.

·         Support the Claims group with the ongoing communication with the Third Party Administrator (TPA) and insurance carriers on the current status of insured claims.

·         Provide legal counsel to CenturyLink; assess and effectively manage legal risk; conduct legal analyses; and advise business units on strategy and potential legal solutions. 

·         Handle legal matters of varying significance or complexity related to insured casualty claims and employment law matters.


  • Juris Doctor degree with 5-7 years of experience
  • Hold an active license to practice law
  • Proficient use of Microsoft software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to demonstrate emotional intelligence within a high-pressure environment, often in a crisis situation to render good decisions to resolve problems.
  • This position requires someone who is self-motivated, flexible and works with little supervision.
  • Ability/willingness to travel.



  • CPCU or AIC Certifications
  • Experience with bodily injury and tort claims, as well as workers’ compensation claims
  • Experience with a claims department as principal client



Bachelors or Equivalent in Law

Masters or Equivalent in Law
