Job Summary

Manages a team of Procurement Managers that support strategic network growth technology platforms (optical, switching, routing, security, access, software and maintenance & support) in support of the global business.  Builds strong relationships with both internal and external technical customers and vendors. Communicates company requirements across multiple business units.  Responsible for creating and setting core network strategy to facilitate annual cost savings and objectives at the department and corporate level.

Job Description
  • Manages $1.0B in annual global spend across Network team; responsible for driving $60M+ of cost savings in a typical year.
  • Builds and retains a high-performance team of skilled Procurement Managers that each independently manage specific network technology spend categories globally:
    • Set goals (cost savings targets, CSAT / stakeholder satisfaction, category specific goals for specific Procurement Managers such as lead time improvements, RFx initiatives etc.)
    • Delegates work as needed
    • Holds direct reports accountable for specific annual category savings goals that roll up to overall Core Network team total.
    • Develops and empowers direct reports to make decisions and take action, formulate negotiation strategies and execute with a sense of urgency.
    • Encourages different points of view, moves team forward through changes
    • Provides timely information
    • Communicates context for business decisions
    • Recognizes accomplishments; fosters teamwork and collaboration
  • Makes decisions that require consistent recognition of a wide range of complex, specialized issues, problems, and opportunities related to CenturyLink’s negotiation and purchase of network CAPEX platforms and operating service expenses.  Decisions have a significant impact on the company’s financial performance and customer experience.
  • Responsible for procurement strategy by developing process improvement efforts aimed at reducing total cost of ownership.  Improves on time / quality performance, settles vendor disputes, develops systematic and repeatable methods to manage largest network suppliers.
  • Builds alliances and relationships with strategic vendors, internal business units and EMEA / LATAM regional procurement leads. 
  • Advanced experience with RFx bidding processes, contract management / negotiation and material catalog systems / processes (SAP specifically a plus).
  • Working knowledge of global business terms (i.e. product delivery Incoterms, tax language, data privacy requirements etc.).
  • Possesses intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
  • Ability to work with CAPEX / OPEX budget holders to set goals / targets for cost savings for the upcoming year and identify cost savings opportunities. 


  • Proven cross-functional leadership skills / experience.
  • Telecom experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of network / telecom technologies and trends / evolution (i.e. 100GE, virtualization, IPv6 etc.)
  • Experience 10+ years.
  • Travel up to 25%
