Job Summary

CenturyLink’s Strategic Planning & Transformation (SP&T) organization is accountable and responsible for supporting existing products that are currently being sold by our global enterprise, federal, wholesale, small and medium and consumer business units, develop the new products that our product management team want to develop, simplify and enhance the digital user experience for north American and global operations, and keep up with the new optical, ethernet, WAN, IP, voice and security technologies so that our customers benefit from low cost per bit but high quality network and services that we offer.

 

The Principal Architect for Content Delivery Network (CDN) is a seasoned, highly skilled individual contributor who drives the design and development of programs, methods, processes, and systems to consolidate and analyze diverse, structured & unstructured “big data” sources to generate actionable insights and solutions for CDN Analytics and related product enhancements.  

Job Description

  • The Principal Architect for CDN coordinates and drives all CDN analytics initiatives in SP&T.
  • This position interacts with the Chief Technical Officer and the operations teams to identify issues and business needs for prioritization, data analysis and experiments.
  • This position is responsible for working with SP&T partners across Data Lake, Data Science, Splunk/ElasticSearch and Business Intelligence functions focused on CDN analytics.
  • The Principal Architect for CDN proactively identifies meaningful insights from large data and metadata sources; correlates, interprets and communicates insights and findings from analysis and experiments to product, service, and business managers in a timely and succinct manner.
  • Proactively manage SP&T efforts to develop descriptive and predictive models in the areas of CDN related capacity planning, anomaly detection, workload optimization, customer segmentation and business performance.
  • Mines information for previously unknown patterns and insights hidden in these assets Data Lake, Data Science, Splunk/ElasticSearch to influence these teams – figure out priorities and coordinate the work amongst these to resolve the business needs and working on the solutions in hybrid cloud and leverage them for competitive advantage.
  • The problems this position will solve will be at the cutting edge of technology and will lie at the intersection of science, engineering and business acumen.
  • Solves problems as part of a highly skilled agile team and within a strongly focused DevOps culture.

 

Qualifications

  • Able to apply techniques such as classification, clustering, regression, association, anomaly detection, time series forecasting, Hidden Markov models and Bayesian inference to solve pragmatic business problems
  • Able to design working models and implement them on Big Data systems using Elastic Search, Map Reduce or Spark frameworks.
  • Familiar with Hadoop, Pig, Hive, Scope, Cosmos, Kafka, Scoop or similar technologies.
  • Able to work within an agile, iterative DevOps development process
  • 15 + years’ experience
  • Experience with statistical programming environments like Python or R
  • Fluent in one or more object-oriented languages like C#, C++, Scala, Java, and scripting languages like Python or Ruby
  • Experience with statistical programming environments like Python or R
  • Experience compiling data into an easily understandable and consumable business format to meet the needs of the intended audience and influencing them to take action
  • Proven track record of converting strategy to execution plan and consistently deliver projects, initiatives, and strategic imperative goals on time and in budget
  • Ability to articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work easily with multiple internal and external partners, build consensus to implement, drive to reach closure, and manage stakeholder expectations.
  • Superior analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities. Can solve even the toughest and most complex of problems; great at gleaning meaning from whatever data is available;

  • Preferred: Plus: Experience with Cloudera or Pivotal Hadoop distributions, Experience with Microsoft Assure in a Hybrid Data Lake environment; Experience working with streaming data and deriving insights from network and network element telemetry data
  • Strong leadership ability to manage in an agile environment

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Math, Computer Science, Data Mining, Machine Learning, Statistics or other quantitative discipline
